FINDING HAPPY, ONE DAY AT A TIME – WEEK FIVE

happy 5

Say What?! Week Five my friends. For Five weeks you have followed me on a journey toward happy. My heart has been full and my life has been blessed with new friends, old friends and family that have reached out or posted with encouragement, stories or just their happy moments. I cannot tell you how those small gestures have brightened my days, my weeks and my month. Without you, I’d be typing and talking to myself. Once again, I thank you for your time and your support, it really has been fun and enlightening at the same time. This has been uplifting and therapeutic for me and because of you, I am all that closer to my own happy. I can only hope that I have done the same for you. From the bottom of my heart, you are my why, and my path has become so very clear. I could not be more grateful.

That being said, let’s discuss this coming week and then what comes next in this adventure toward happy. For one month I have challenged you to step out of your comfort zone, I have encouraged you to open your heart and maybe think just a little more positive. In these challenges we discussed two very important concepts and a bonus concept that can show us a path toward happiness in our lives.

1)      Gratitude – To be thankful for what is presently in our lives allows happy to enter our hearts. To be grateful for what we have, even the smallest of things, can change our mindset just enough to perceive our situation in a much brighter light, and the list of what we believe we need becomes minimal.

2)      Kindness – While this concept should be a no-brainer, there are many times in our lives that we gloss over what a simple act of kindness can accomplish. Whether it be a smile to a stranger, a compliment, inclusion, or giving back, kindness to others almost feels selfish because what you gain from it is invaluable. And as a bonus…

3)      Self-Care – Taking care of us, finding our center, praying, meditating, just taking a moment for you is not something we think of often, but is so very important. Please remember not to neglect yourselves while you take care of your responsibilities, because accomplishing all we need and want to do on an empty tank takes its toll. Self-care will give you the time you need to take on your days as the best version of you.

While we only have five days left of the month, the first two days of September fall on a Saturday and a Sunday, which is lovely timing to continue with Give Back Saturdays and Self-Care Sundays. Continuing these significant steps will solidify our habit of helping others and ourselves. While our month of Gratitude and Kindness has been a beautiful month, I ask that you stick with me because this coming month we will focus on our Goals and Positivity. Asking you to step a little more out of your comfort zone, we explore our thought processes, how we can change them from negative to positive and what exactly, or not exactly but close, we want out of our life. What is it that we want to accomplish while we live our best life and how this is included in our definition of happy. We will dive more into that after this week, but I hope you tag along, because as I learn about myself, I encourage you to learn about yours.

And now, for Week Five, let’s make it as amazing as you!!

Day 1 – Monday

Splurge on Something for You. Today is the first day of the last tasks in the month of Gratitude and Kindness. So, today thank yourself and be kind to yourself by splurging on something for You! Treat yourself to something you love… it doesn’t have to be extravagant, it can be a coke, flowers for the table, chocolate covered peanuts, your favorite coffee or the new book you’ve been spying. You’ve been working hard to train your mind, now reward yourself, you deserve it! We get so wrapped up in our busy lives and daily routine sometimes we forget it’s ok to treat ourselves. Make the conscious effort today to do just that!

Day 2-Tuesday

Call or Meet a Family Member or a Friend. Reach out to those you love and continue the connection that sometimes we take for granted. Call the friend you’ve been thinking about and keep saying you want to get back in touch with, the old co-worker you’ve been missing and wonder what they are up to, or the family member that you haven’t seen in a long time but know it would take just a phone call to set up a lunch, dinner or drinks. Don’t wait, don’t procrastinate, call, text, message them. They are probably thinking of you too, don’t pass up that moment for a chance to reconnect.

Day 3-Wednesday

Do Something Healthy for Your Body. Yep, this day is back, and you know you just couldn’t wait!! I really hope that this week you are looking forward to getting outside, taking a class, hitting the pavement or jumping on the bike. I express the importance every week and it’s no lie, physical and mental health are concepts of the same idea, one is the foundation for the other. Get up, get out and treat yourself to some endorphins, it will be fun! If you’re looking for something routine, and you’re local, give me a shout, there’s a 5k training program starting next week, you really should check out (come walk/run with me and my tribe)!

Day 4-Thursday

Think of 5 things you are grateful for, and, of course, you can’t use the same ones from the past weeks. After you do this, you should have a list of 15 small and big things that you are thankful for in your life. That is extremely powerful. Read them, reflect on all that you have in your life and all the good that surrounds you, and smile, because now every time you feel a little down, you can open your journal and see the beautiful that exists within your world.

Day 5-Friday

Reflect on this Past Month. Today is the last day of the month and a perfect time to sit down, take out your journals, flip to the first page and read back your definition of happy. Think about how you felt that first day, and about how you feel today. Is there a difference, do you feel a shift, and do you believe you have stepped any closer to your definition? Write it all down, what you feel helped you, what may not have helped, what you skipped and wished you didn’t, or how proud of yourself you are for taking steps to open your heart to the possibility of happy, because I am.

Anyone who puts down their ego and allows themselves to change their thinking even if it’s just a little, should be incredibly proud of themselves because it is a challenge, a challenge you accepted and because of that may have found a little more happiness in your life. Now, be proud, feel accomplished and Go Dance!!

Day 6-Saturday

Give Back/Volunteer/Pay it Forward. You know the drill!! Just like the past weeks, Saturdays are a fantastic day to give back. This is a weekly task and for good reason. When we give back to others the feeling that fills you up is inexplainable. It is a completely different level of happy because you are giving happy to another. This can be done simply, or it can be dedicated time in the day, however you want to do it, but do something for someone else today, without expecting anything in return.

**If you have any ideas for this week, please do not hesitate to drop it in the comments or post it on the page! And please, share, share, we love to hear about how you are spreading the love and the happiness!!

Day 7-Sunday

Reflection/Self-Care. Can’t forget this day, it’s a staple, because it’s so very important. Spend this day to take a moment to reflect on your week, on your thoughts and on your emotions. Use this day to meditate, pray, read, sleep, or just sit in the quiet to calm your mind, hear your heart, and connect to yourself so you are ready for the week ahead. I know life can get busy, but please do not skip this day, it’s so very important for your well-being and for your soul.

***Suggestions for meditations, books or affirmations? I love to hear what works for everyone, please share!!

*****

I cannot say enough how incredibly grateful I am for all who have read the posts, participated either actively online or privately, and have stuck with me through this indescribable journey. If you continue to follow, I’m overjoyed, if not, I hope you choose happy for you, you continue to spread kindness and love, and you take care of you, so you can then walk this earth as the best version of you.

May you be blessed in the path you take, and in the incredible life you live, as you all deserve happy in all aspects of your life, don’t ever forget that and remember to smile, because you are amazing!

Much Love,

Lisa
